What Is Horse Chestnut Extract (Aesculus hippocastanum)?

Horse Chestnut Extract (Aesculus hippocastanum) comes from the konker tree, a type of flowering tree in the soapberry family (Sapindaceae) that is native to a small region in Southeastern Europe. Today, Horse chestnut trees can be found throughout the world and are common in temperate climates. They can grow to around 128 ft tall and develop white flowers in the spring.

Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) trees develop small, spiny, green fruits with a large seed in the middle (often called konkers). The seed is similar in appearance to chestnuts, but unlike chestnuts, horse chestnuts are poisonous when consumed.

This product is standardized to contain 20% aescins, the main active component in horse chestnut extract.
