Breakfast Shakes and Smoothies

Combine one to two tablespoons of Viva Naturals Organic Chia Seeds with your favorite fruit, milk or milk alternative and protein powder of choice for a quick yet filling snack any time of the day. Try our delicious Chia Colada Shake by adding one tablespoon of our chia seeds to one cup of almond milk, one tablespoon of Viva Naturals Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, ½ cup frozen pineapple, one tablespoon of dried coconut and a dash of cinnamon for an extra kick.

 


Chia Jam


Pectin is typically used in jams and jellies as an effective gelling agent, yet provides little nutritional value to foods. As a healthier alternative, chia seeds’ unique hydrophilic properties allow them to absorb up to 12 times their weight, making them the perfect substitute for homemade spreads. For a simple everyday jam, soak ¼ of Viva Naturals Organic Chia Seeds in ½ cup water for approximately five minutes. Heat two cups of chopped strawberries, one cup of blueberries and ⅓ cup of honey or agave on medium heat until soft, about 12 to 15 minutes. Mash berries lightly with a fork or potato masher. Remove from heat and add in chia mixture. Allow to cool for 15 minutes.

 


Vegan Egg Substitute


Similarly to flax seeds, chia seeds serve as an ideal thickener and binder, making them perfectly suitable for vegan recipes and for individuals with egg sensitivities. Simply add one tablespoon of Viva Naturals Organic Chia Seeds to three tablespoons of water in small bowl, stir and allow to sit for 15 to 20 minutes until the seeds form a gel. This recipe replaces one egg and can be used in a variety of desserts including cakes, muffins, cookies or any other baked goods.


 


 


Gluten-Free Flour Alternative


When ground, chia seeds serve as an excellent gluten-free alternative to conventional grain flours.
